Spruce Run Annual Meeting to Honor Longtime Friends of the Organization

Spruce Run’s Annual Meeting will take place January 21 from 5:30-7:30 pm. We hope you will join us as we honor two longtime friends of the organization, Hermon High School teacher Shelley Gavett and volunteer Peggy Day. We will also hear from keynote speaker Representative Sara Stevens, who will be sharing her thoughts on the work we do.

Shelley Gavett is receiving our Partners and Change Award, which honors an outstanding community partner who recognizes that every person’s safety exists in the cultural context that we all create every day in our own lives with our words, actions, and choices regarding what we tolerate, what we challenge, and to whom we reach out. For many years Shelley has carried out these ideals in her teaching and her work with youth around promoting safe and healthy relationships.

Peggy Day is receiving the Michele Alexander Award, which honors a Spruce Run volunteer who exemplifies the qualities of the award’s namesake, a Spruce Run volunteer who died in a car accident in 2003. Peggy, who has served on our Steering Committee and on the hotline, shows the same grounded, compassionate support for people impacted by abuse that Michele did. Peggy’s generous spirit and her boundless energy have contributed much to this organization over the years.
