Vote today in Bangor Savings Bank’s Community Matters More Campaign and you can help Spruce Run win $5,000!

Contest information:

A total of 68 grants will be awarded, including the organizations listed on the ballot and to the top 20 write-in vote recipients (at least two write-ins per region). The top vote-getting organizations in each region, including write-ins, will each receive $5,000. The remaining 60 organizations will each receive $1,000.

You may submit one (1) ballot – paper or online – with up to three (3) votes.

Voters must be Maine residents.

Online voting ends March 5, 2012 at 11:59.59 pm.

Hotline Volunteers Needed

Have you been thinking of volunteering? Are you searching for a cause that is important to you and will make a real difference in the lives of those in need? Are you interested in being a part of Spruce Run’s commitment to changing attitudes, saving lives and ending abuse?

If so, you have found the right volunteer opportunity for you. Nervous about helping others? That’s to be expected – we have a training designed to prepare community members like you for this type of work.

Our next training for hotline volunteers begins in early February. For more about this training and the important role of a hotline volunteer visit our volunteer page. You can even sign up online! We hope to see you at the training.

January is Stalking Awareness Month

January is National Stalking Awareness Month, a time to mobilize against a dangerous crime. This year’s theme, “Stalking: Know It. Name It. Stop It.,” calls our nation to stop this crime by learning more about it.

Stalking can happen to anyone, and it affects 3.4 million victims a year. It’s a crime in all 50 states. Stalking is an issue for many victims of domestic violence. Intimate partner stalking is the most common type of stalking and the most dangerous.

Bangor Roller Derby Partners With Spruce Run

Bangor Roller Derby is a skater-owned and operated nonprofit with a focus on community involvement and empowering community members. For their inaugural year, they’ve chosen to partner with Spruce Run and have already organized a fundraiser to provide Halloween costumes for all of the children living in Spruce Run’s transitional and emergency housing.

UMaine MBA Corps Paints Penobscot County Purple

Students from the University of Maine Business Corps made and sold purple ribbons during Domestic Violence Awareness Month to raise awareness on campus about domestic abuse. President Cassie Vaillancourt presented a check from the proceeds of the sale to Spruce Run’s Joy Walters.

Verizon Support of DV Continues

Fine Arts & Crafts Show Benefits Spruce Run

Saturday, November 5th

Designing Women will be holding a fine art & craft show from 9am to 4pm at the Center for Family Business, Husson University, Bangor.

Designing Women is a nonprofit established in 1991 with over 20 artisans showcasing high-quality arts and crafts including jewelry, pottery, fine art, paper, handbags, clothing, and more!

The $2 suggested donation at the door and proceeds from the food sales benefit Spruce Run.

SPRUCE RUN ANNUAL MEETING

Spruce Run’s Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday November 1st from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Spruce Run’s Resource Center, 77 Essex Street, Bangor.

We’ll be honoring two important community members:

Julie Archer CPA – Michele Alexander Volunteer Award
